We all know that the greatest decade ever for movies was the 80’s… wait, what? You didn’t know that. Ok then I will let you off. But in all seriousness I have been on a bit of a 80’s kick at the moment and today I wanted to share with you guys a few of the unforgotten gems of the 80’s. These make for a great movie night where you can snuggle up on the coach next to someone special. Or you can grab the biggest bucket of popcorn you can find and have some fun on your own!
Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher, Corey Feldman
Before he was always trying to win a Oscar (and most of the time deserving I might add) Tom Hanks was making us laugh our butts of throughout the 80’s. By far my favorite of his has to be the classic The Burbs. Tom Hanks plays a guy who is off work because he is stressed out. But rather than relaxing he and his buddies, overweight and manic Ray, and former military man Mark, suspect that their new neighbors are up to no good and have murdered their neighbor Walter! This is a crazy movie that as well as being really funny does have a ton of heart as well. If you want a fun night in then track down The Burbs.
Patrick Swayze, Lisa Niemi
While many remember Patrick Swayze for his amazing performances in movies such as Ghost and Dirty Dancing, when I think of him I remember this classic and forgotten action movie, Steel Dawn. Set in a post-apocalyptic world. Patrick Swayze plays nomad who while wandering around the desert finds a settlement. Water is scarce in this future and a mother and her child as well as the other settlers are being harassed by an evil gang who want their water. Well they did not know that Patrick Swayze was not going to stand for this and he protects this settlement and also falls in love. This is a fun 80’s style action movie and one of Mr. Swayze’s very best.
Sam Neil, Nicole Kidman, Billy Zane
Here we have a really under rated thriller that you if you have not already seen certainly should look into. On a boating trip trying to forget a horrible accident they had been through, John and Rae find a sinking boat with a lone survivor on board called Hughie. He has a very odd story and he seems kind of strange so John decides to check out his sinking boat. John finds out they made a horrible mistake letting this guy on his boat and now John must do all he can to save his wife and his own life as well. Without giving away spoilers this is just a darn fun thriller that will leave you with not fingernails by the time it is done.
Corey Haim, Charlie Sheen, Winona Ryder
80’s star Corey Haim sadly passed away too young if you ask me. But he did make many fun movies in the 80’s. Lucas while not his best known is certainly one of his best. He plays the role of Lucas, he is kind of a high school loser who decides that the best way to win his dream girl is by joining the football team. He gets his heart broken by his best friend and his dream girl and in general he learns to become a young man. This is a great coming of age story that has a fantastic script and is also very well acted. Looking for a somewhat obscure 80’s movie? Then I cannot recommend this one highly enough. The fashion, music and the way people talk just reeks of the 80’s here!
