Sadly bullying is something that many children go through at some point in their school lives. Bullying is a horrible thing that happens to kids all over the world. It can be absolutely devastating for a child who is the victim of bullying. Many times a child will not be able to stand up for themselves, or they may be too scared to come forward and tell you that something is wrong. No parent wants their child to be bullied so today I want to give you a few signs that your child maybe dealing with a bully at school.
Things Are Going Missing Or Being Broken
If your child’s toys all of a sudden start to look like they are thinning out and they are asking for more lunch money, but they seem to not be putting on any weight, or maybe their bike has been damaged by a “fall” or something. Bullies like to take from their victims. Sometimes bully can be all verbal and psychological, but other times a bully can demand things like your child’s possessions or their lunch money. If you notice a toy is missing, ask your child about it. Chances are it’s nothing, but if stuff has been gone missing its worth looking into.
They Are Avoiding Going Out
Them no longer wanting to go out and play, or going out of their way to avoid social situations with other kids is certainly something worth being concerned about. Many times a child will not want to leave the house because they do not want to run into the child who is bullying them.
Their Schooling Is Suffering
If your child’s teachers are getting concerned over their school work and if they once enjoyed school, but now are doing things like crying about having to go or are pretending that they are sick so that they can stay at home, then there is clearly something happening at school and you need to step in and find out what.
If your child is tossing and turning at night and having trouble sleeping, in many cases it can be one of many things. But if you are worried that they are being bullied, then ask them about it. A restless night sleep is sometimes a result of them in bed with nothing, but their thoughts, which then leads to them worrying about going to school the next day.
Odd Eating Habits
A loss of appetite can be a clear indication that your child is stressed and worried about something. Even us adults, when we are worried or stressed, can lose our appetites and children are the exact same way. At dinner time if they say that they are nit hungry then ask them if everything is ok at school. Catching them off guard like this can sometimes get to what is bothering them.
Not Wanting To Spend Time Online
In these days with our kids being constantly online, be it on their phones, computers or games console, it is very odd when they all of a sudden start to no longer want to play online or when they are online they get distressed and unhappy. Cyber bullying may be odd to some people, but it’s a very real thing for today’s kids.
