So you are pretty sure that you are sticking to your diet, you have cut back on the terrible for you snacks and you are even hitting the gym a few times per week. Yet for some reason you are not dropping the weight that you feel you should be. I know first-hand how frustrating this can be and it’s very tempting to just give up on your weight loss. But please do not and read on to see if you are doing any of the things below. These are ways that result in you not losing the weight you want to. I bet more than a few will surprise you!
The Size Of Your Portions
One of the things that I really did struggle with was the size of the portions I was eating. The fact is most of us have no idea what the proper portions size should be as we have for years been used to having our plates filled to the brim. Just because you have a large plate does not mean that you need to fill it with food. Protein is great and things like chicken and other meat is good for a balanced diet, but not if you are over eating on it.
Being An Emotional Eater
I was a terrible offender of this. I would stick to my diet religiously, but if I had a bad day at work you can bet your bottom dollar, rather than eating that nice pasta I had prepared the day before, I would be going in the drawer where the take out menus were and ordering a nice big pizza. As well as eating the bad food the problem was I would not count any kind of emotional eating. It was almost like I would just totally ignore it and pretend it did not happen. If you eat when you are mad, stressed or sad it can take your brain much longer to realize that your stomach is full so it’s very easy to overeat.
Buying All “Low Fat” Food
Now in theory when you are on a diet you should be buying all the food that has low in fat written on it. After all you are trying to lose fat so it makes sense to eat foods that go out of their way to tell you they are low in fat, right? Well not exactly and this is a trap many people fall into. You see while these foods are often very low in fat they do it by adding all these sugars and other chemicals. So while they are low in fat, the other things that are used can make your body crave sugar which, as I am sure you know, is not a feeling you want to have when you are trying to lose weight.
Taking Out Protein
Many people are confused as to what protein does for the body. They think they should only be consuming a good amount of protein if they want to be some kind of body builder. This is simply not true and protein is vital for a good diet. Foods high in protein will keep you running longer by making you feel fuller. If your meals do not have a decent amount of protein in them then you can bet after just a few hours you will be hungry again.
You may think that skipping breakfast or lunch is a great way to lose a little extra weight, but this is a huge mistake. You see if your body is not properly nourished, then it can go into “survival mode” and this will greatly slow down your weight loss!
