Running is a great form of cardio and while some people out there love to just jump up and decide to go for a run and enjoy it, there are those of us who hate the thought of going for a run. Now I love to exercise, but running is one of my least favorite cardio activities, but at the same time I know it’s a good (and free) one for me to do. So to make it more interesting for me I would do things that would make running more fun. And I want to share these with you guys so that you can actually enjoy running.
Now you can only do this in a large park and if there are not too many people around, but this is a really fun way to burn some major calories. The idea is that you take a Frisbee, any brand will do, I got my one in a cheap store. Now what you want to do is throw the Frisbee. As soon as it leaves our hands run after it. If the Frisbee changes direction then so do you. Now jogging here you need to sprint as fast as you can until it touches the floor. If you are self-conscious about this, then get a friend to join you. One throws it while the other runs after it. and yes this is kind of like what you do with a dog. 🙂
I cannot tell you how many times I have beaten a car in a race! To be fair the guy driving the car has no idea I am racing him, but it does give me a boost and makes running feel more exciting. If I am out running and I see a car drive past, not going too fast, I will then sprint and see if I can catch it or take it over. I am burning major calories and having fun doing it. It does not have to be cars either you can race yourself. One day I was running in the park and just out of the blue I said to myself I have twenty seconds to make it to that bench. What happened if I did not make it? Well nothing, but it was just a fun way to make my morning run have a little more meaning.
Or free running if you prefer. Now I am not the kind of person who is going to run in my town scaling bus stops and people’s walls. Some people are comfortable doing this and I say more power to you. But for me I do a sort of light version of parkour. I do my free running in the park. If it’s quiet, I will jump onto or over benches, fire hydrants maybe even something in the play park area if no kids are around. At first you do feel a bit silly, but you are actually getting a really good work out.
Smile As Soon As You Start Running!
I used to (and some days still do) hate the thought of going for a run, but I did read a while back that forcing yourself to smile and thinking of a happy thought just before you start puts you in a great frame of mind. If you start your run with a happy thought it makes the run so much better and I can say from personal experience this is actually true.
