I was a bit of a late bloomer when it came to further education. I kind of coasted through high school, doing the bare minimum to get by without being hassled my teachers. I tried college for a semester, but it simply was not for me, so I dropped out, got a job and ten years later I wanted to give it another go. Now to be honest I simply was not ready for college. I am not making excuses for myself, but I needed to get out of education, get a job and find my own way. I could not have done that going straight from high school to college. Some though think they are too old or that it’s too late. But today I want to give you a few reasons why going back to college or whatever you want to call it is a good idea.
Change Of Career
College is a place where you can really go and get the training and experience you need to get the career of your dreams. Some people work in the same job for say ten or twenty years and then snap and decide that they want to go and learn to do something that they have always dreamed of doing. You are never too old to do the job that you have always wanted to do and going back to school is a great way to get the tools to do so.
You Can Make More Money
While there are many people who live great and fulfilled lives with just their high school diploma and that is fantastic. But many studies have shown that the big paying jobs tend to want people to have a college degree. I am not saying I full heartedly agree with this, but it is what it is and if you want a high paying job then going back to school can be the first step in the ladder to getting it.
You Can Meet Many New People
Some of us who are older when we go back to school are worried that it’s going to be just a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds running around playing beer pong and hacky sack. The fact is more and more colleges and universities are expanding their intake of mature students. So as well as getting qualified so that you have that dream job of yours, you are also getting to meet some new and interesting people.
It’s Great After You Have Raised Your Kids
Once your kids have flown the nest or are in high school and no longer need you as much, you will probably want to go back to work. Doing what exactly is a thing many people have trouble with. But rather than just jumping into the first job you see, think about going back to school and getting a degree or some other kind of qualification. This can not only help you get a job, but it also gets you back into the real world after taking care of your family.
College Now Can Work Around Your Life
Getting qualifications is now more accessible than ever before. You do not need to go and live on campus. Heck some people even do all of their schooling from the comfort of their own home. The thing is when you do go back to school as a mature student you can work your new education schedule around your family commitments or maybe even your current job. Going back to school does not have to take over your life. Trust me when I tell you that you can make it fit if you really want to!
