Hang on, cancel your appointment with plastic surgeon to get your calf implants! Today we are looking at some of the very best exercises you can do to make your calves really nice and toned. The calves for some people are a bit of a problem area when it comes to getting into shape and they may have a hard time isolating them, but I have a few exercises for you that will really make your calves pop!
Tone Your Calves : The Heel Raise
LetвЂ™s start with a classic, The Heel Raise. The idea here is that you need to stand on one leg. Now slowly lift up onto the ball of your foot so that your heel is lifted off the floor. Pretty much instantly you will feel your calf working. Tense your calf muscle as well for a little extra kick. Slowly lower back down and then repeat the process. Do ten reps on each leg for 3 sets to start with. Also if you have trouble balancing, then use your hand to hold onto the wall or a shelf.
Tone Your Calves : Calf Lift
The Calf Lift sees you needing to stand with your hands on your hips. Now slowly raise up onto the ball of your feet (both feet at the same time) hold it for a second and then slowly lower back down to the floor. To start with I recommend just doing 5 reps of 3 sets. Gradually you can build up to doing 10-15 in each set.
Tone Your Calves : Step Calf Raises
To do this one you need to either use a step, book or even a proper exercise step. Stand on the step with both feet and have your heels hanging of the edge, but let them hang they should not be touching the floor. Slowly start to raise up until you feel the pressure on your calf muscles. I would recommend doing one leg at a time just like the heel raise, but on occasion it does not hurt to change things up and do both legs at the same time. Go for 10 reps and 3 sets of this exercise.
Tone Your Calves : Sit Down Calf Raises
For this exercise you should use a couple of light dumbbells or maybe even a couple of cans of beans out of your pantry. Sit on a chair with the weights held by your side. Slowly use your calf to stand up. Try not to let your heels touch the floor. Slowly sit back down again and then repeat. This one can be hard to get the hang of, but it does work very well. To start with just do 5 reps in 3 sets.
Tone Your Calves : Exercising On Tip Toes
This one is not for everyone, but itвЂ™s one I use when I really want to blast my calves. When you are on the treadmill and you are running normally, for 30 seconds to a minute run on your tip toes. It may take a while to get used to, but I promise your calves will be on fire! I also use this same method on the cross trainer as well. Do not spend the whole time you are on the treadmill or cross trainer on your tip toes. Just do a minute or so and you will be getting a great calf workout.
Tone Your Calves : Barbell/Dumbbell Calf Raises
This one is for you more advanced exercise enthusiasts. The idea here is that you are standing on the floor and doing calf raises where you lift up onto the ball of your foot and slowly put your heels back down. They key here though is that you have a barbell over your shoulders to add some extra weight, thus making your calves work harder. If you do not like the feel of the barbell on the back of your neck then hold a pair of dumbbells by your side.
