Confidence is something that more than a few of us lack. It can stop us really doing and getting what we want out of life. But building confidence is not something that happens overnight. Building Confidence : Know What You Are Good At
No matter what you think there will be a few things that you know you are good at. Write down the things that you know for a fact you can do well and then take a moment to think yeah I am really good at this. Confidence is a state of mind and by starting to take pride in the things you are good at and knowing that you are actually pretty darn good you will slowly but surely start to get confident in other areas of your life as well. It all starts though with taking pride and not being scared to show off what you are good at.
Building Confidence : Take On Your Insecurities
Now this can make you feel sad, but this is not the purpose of this. We all have things about ourselves that we do not like be it something like our laugh or maybe our hair, body or whatever. The fact is everyone has something they are insecure about. Rather than shying away from that insecurity tackle it head on and set about fixing it. Part of what makes people not feel confident is that they are worried people are judging, laughing or noticing the things they want to hide. Well stop hiding them and come up with ways to deal with them!
Building Confidence : Talk About It
Gaining confidence is not going to happen overnight. Instead you need to work at it, building it up little by little and a great way to do this is to really wear your heart on your sleeve and talk to friends and family about how you would like to be more self-confident. Even if the person you are talking to about your issues cannot help, having a person to talk to about it can make you feel more confident in general just by them offering a little encouragement. Having someone else patting you on the back and telling you, you are awesome, is a great confidence booster. But this works both ways, if someone is there as a cheerleader for you then make sure you are helping boost their confidence also.
Building Confidence : Learn From Mistakes
One huge factor that leads to a dip in confidence is making a mistake, be it at work or in your personal life. Well we all make mistakes and no one is perfect. The key here is to not dwell on your mistakes and think of what went wrong. Instead look at your mistakes as learning experience of how not to make the same mistakes in the future. Realizing what went wrong (no matter what it was) is a great way to develop the confidence to tackle future problems that may come your way.
Building Confidence : Think Positive Thoughts
To be confident you need to have a positive state of mind. People who are self-confident are not full of thoughts of self-pity and thoughts of doom and dread about their lives. Always think positively about yourself and if those negative thoughts start to creep just think of something positive. It really is that simple. I am not going to say keep away from negative people as that can be near on impossible for some of us. So if you do work with someone negative try and find positives about them and steer any conversations you have with them in that direction.
