More often than not the number one reason that we struggle to lose weight is simply because we sabotage ourselves. Seriously, the number one enemy you have when trying to lose weight is yourself! Today I want to share with you the most common ways that people sabotage their own weight loss. Most of these happen without people realizing that they are, but hopefully by reading this you will be able to avoid these pitfalls.

You  Sabotage Your Weight Loss If:

You Are Not Eating Regularly Enough

Common-Ways-We-Sabotage-Our-Weight-Loss-eat-regularlyOne of the main causes people struggle to lose as much weight as they would like is because they think they are doing a good thing by skipping meals and not eating much during the day. While in theory this should work, the fact is the human body is one of the most amazing machines on the planet. When you stop eating rather than just having weight drop off you, your metabolism will slow down to help your body run with less fuel making you lose weight at a slower rate.

You Are Not Drinking Enough

Common-Ways-We-Sabotage-Our-Weight-Loss-drink-waterNow let me say right away that drinking water will not make you magically lose weight, but it certainty can assist you. You see if you have a pretty much perfect diet and you are eating the right foods and have worked out what you need to eat in order to lose weight, but you are dehydrated, then you will be slowing down your weight loss! Make sure that you are drinking enough water each day. A good rule to go by is either a glass of water before your meal or during your meal. Your body simply cannot burn away that fat when it’s dehydrated!

Too Much Sugar

Common-Ways-We-Sabotage-Our-Weight-Loss-too-much-sugarI have found that people who have done an amazing job in working out the right amount of calories they need to consume to be healthy and lose weight, but do not end to have too much sugar in their diet. You see sugar along with refined carbs can put the brakes on your weight loss right away! The best way to think about it is like this. Your body will be happily burning away fat, but then you eat something with sugar and the body burns the sugar instead of the fat.

Eating More Because You Are Exercising

Well, it really does not work out that way, I am sorry to say. I will admit right of the bat that I have been guilty of going to the gym for an hour and then rewarding myself with a big slice of cake, thus just putting back all (or probably more) of the calories I have just burnt off at the gym. You will not lose weight this way and more often than not you will not even maintain your weight, you will just put it on.

Alcohol

Alcohol is full of calories and while if you have counted your calories perfectly that one glass of wine or that beer may fit in. The problem is that alcohol can slow down your body’s metabolism and when you are drinking you are more likely to snack on things that are bad for you and that just one intended glass of wine can easily turn into 2 and then into 5!
