In my younger days me and my significant other had a vacation and the main event of this location was to go and see the Rocky statue in Philadelphia. As we were both two huge movie buffs it was really cool to see this and we have kind of made it a little thing that we do in making our vacations fit around going to locations that were used for various movies. Here are a few that you can actually go and visit.
Timberline Lodge: Oregon, USA
The Shining
The Shining was a movie and a book that made my blood curl! So checking out the hotel that serves as the exterior for the hotel in the movie is certainly something that is on mu bucket list. Now the hotel has undergone some pretty amazing renovations in the 30 plus years since the movie came out and its now actually a fantastic ski type resort hotel with all the things you would want in a hotel. But you just know if you stay here and you have seen the movie that you will certainly have a very creepy and unnerving night’s sleep!
Rocky Steps: Philadelphia, USA Rocky
Rocky is a true classic and every fan no matter if they are a man or a woman has wanted to run up the Rocky steps. This is something that I have actually done and it was amazing! And as there had to have been at least another 50 tourists doing this when I was there I assume this is something that many other people want to do. They also do have the Rocky statue from the movies now located near the bottom of the steps which is really cool. Running up those steps or even just walking up them really does make you feel like you are part of Hollywood history.
Lord Of The Rings Hobbit Holes: Matamata, New Zealand
It’s pretty common knowledge that the breath taking scenery in the Lord Of The Rings movies was New Zealand. The country really embraced the movie and now you can go and visit many places form the movie and see some of the areas that were used for the Hobbit houses and now is known as Hobbiton and is a major tourist attraction. If you ever wanted to pretend that you were Frodo and go skipping through the Shire well thanks to this place you can.
Hogwarts: Alnwick, England
Harry Potter
The amazing Alnwick castle has been used for many movies and productions over the years, but its most famous for its links to the Harry Potter movie. You have to think that no production company in the world could have made a Hogwarts look as good as this real life castle. This is where the first two movies were filmed and the courtyard is instantly recognizable as the area where Harry first learned to fly his broom. The castle embraces this and each year they have broomstick training classes for the kids which is really cool.
District 12: North Carolina, USA
The Hunger Games
The dim, brutal and depressing future that the Hunger Games is set is pretty bleak and the District 12 village where heroine, Katniss is from is thought to be just a movie set by many people, but in actual fact this is a real life ghost town that was one a fully functioning village before the last person left in the 70’s. Henry River Mill Village as it’s known in real life is all owned by one man and he is actually trying to sell the whole place! Still this is proven a very popular place for fans of the movie to come and see.
