Hitting the gym is a great way to get healthy, lose some weight and have a fun time doing it. Still some gyms once they give you an вЂњinductionвЂќ will just leave you to it. The end result is we have a ton of people working out in gymвЂ™s who do not have a clue what they are doing. Here are some of the most common mistakes people make when working out in the gym.
Mistake 1 People Make In The Gym: Treating The Gym As A Social Club
Look having a workout buddy is a great way to stay motivated and make your gym session more fun. But I have lost count at the amount of times I have not been able to use a piece of gym equipment because there are two people chatting on it for a good five minutes. Making friends at the gym is great, but you can talk after your workout. There is no need to stop every five minutes in between reps to chat for ten minutes and then do another set of reps. The gym is a place to work, you can talk in the juice bar after!
Mistake 2: Not Knowing What You Are Going To Do Before You Go In
I know exactly what muscles I am hitting before I step foot in the gym. Have a workout plan in place. Either get one of the people at the gym to make one for you or if you have been using the gym for a while come up with your own. Going to the gym without knowing what kind of workout you are doing is a sure way to make it so you are doing a half assed, lack of focus workout. Knowing what you are doing before you go in means you can get focused and get straight to work rather than walking around the gym for ten minutes thinking about what to do.
Mistake 3: No Warm Up
Doing some dynamic stretches is a great way to get your muscles ready for the pounding you are about to give them. Some people do not bother stretching or warming up at all and then wonder why their joints are all sore and why they are aching so bad. Well taking just a couple of minutes to stretch can stop you getting strained muscles or even worse injuring your ligaments which can keep you out of the gym for a few months. I do not care how busy your life is, you can spare a couple of minutes to stretch before you work out.
Mistake 4: Not Changing Things Up
Some people will do the same workout over and over for a year!!!! You may see results at first , but eventually your body is going to get used to it and you will stop seeing improvements. You need to keep your body guessing by changing your workouts up every once and a while. You want to stop your body adapting to your workouts. Changing the type of exercises you do, for example instead of making a bench press your main chest move do dumbbell presses. Just little changes can stop your body getting to comfortable.
Mistake 5: Not Doing The Exercises Properly
Men are the worst offenders in a gym for trying to lift too much weight. What is the point in bench pressing 150 pounds if you are not doing the exercise properly? You need to lift a weight that enables you to complete the exercise properly, but also so that itвЂ™s not too easy for you. Doing the exercise properly is more important than the weight you are lifting. People also have a tendency to rush the exercises. All the exercises you do should be in a controlled manor to ensure you are working your muscles to the maximum.
