So you decided that enough was enough and you were going to start to try and lose some weight and get healthier. You start with the best of intentions, full of hope and in general feeling pretty positive. But a month or two down the line you seem to hit a brick wall and the weight is no longer coming off. Now there could be multiple reasons as to why even if you swear you are following your weight loss program to the letter. But things can slip through without you thinking about it. So today we are looking at things that are stopping you losing weight.
Why You Are Not Losing Weight: Reason 1 -Wolfing Your Food Down
With today’s busy lifestyles be it working a full time job or looking after kids. It can be so tempting at meal times to instead of being someone enjoying their healthy food to resemble a person shoveling food down their throats as if they were in some kind of hillbilly eating contests! Eating fast does not make you burn calories while you are eating or make it somehow be less calories. It just means you are ramming a ton of food into your stomach all at once. Take your time and enjoy your food, there is no rush to eat. It has been shown that people who do rapid eat tend to struggle to break down the food as efficiently as people who eat at a normal or slow pace.
Reason 2: You Are Skipping Meals
Studies have shown time and time again that people who decide to skip breakfast tend to weigh more than those who eat a healthy breakfast. By skipping breakfast or one of your other main meals, you may think that you are skipping some calories, but what you are actually doing is greatly increasing your chances of grabbing a snack to get you by until your next main meal. Many people do this without even really thinking or realizing that they have done it. Eat three healthy meals a day and if you really need it a piece of fruit or say celery is a perfect snack.
Reason 3: Liquid Calories!
Far too many people losing weight fail to realize the huge effect that liquids can have on their weight loss. A study found that in the USA the average person gets just over 20 percent of their daily calories from beverages! How crazy is that? The thing about it is you are getting these extra calories from say a cup of coffee, but you then do not take them away from your daily calorie allowance so you are just adding more calories onto your daily intake. People who like to have a few beers on a weekend as well do not realize that that an average light beer has over 100 calories in it. Always count your liquid calories or if you do not just have some water.
Reason 4: Big Incredible Hulk Sized Portions
As a society we have gotten used to having a plate just full to the brim with food. This is mainly due to restaurants loading up peoples plates these days. So when we eat at home we think having a plate overflowing with food is the norm. You do not need to have a ton of food to be full. A few tricks to stop overeating are first of all use smaller plates and bowls. Also you can force yourself to leave a few things on your plate each meal, but this is wasting food!
Reason 5: Eating Without Thinking
I am sure you have been sitting watching TV with a bag of chips, next minute you look down and you notice you have eaten the whole bag! Or you are out with having a meal with your kids. They have left a few things on their plate and without thinking you clear their plate. This kind of mindless eating adds all kinds of calories. This is a hard habit to break, but you need to try and stop having a bag of something with you when you are watching TV. Also just because there is food on someone else plate does not mean you need to finish it.
