We all know that some food out there no matter how good it tastes is far from healthy. You do not have to be an expert on healthy eating to know that a nice big deep pan slice of peperoni pizza is not good for you! But there are some foods that can take us by surprise at not only how unhealthy they are, but just how darn right bad for our bodies that they can be. Now I am not saying eating this food is going to make you go running for the emergency room or anything like that, but studies have shown that these foods can have some pretty nasty side effects.
Dark chocolate is seen as the better option for those of us who like to eat healthily. When you want a chocolate treat it’s always best to have dark chocolate. Sure it’s not healthy, but it’s better than regular chocolate. But what about white chocolate? Does the same principle apply? Well no not at all. You see, white chocolate is jam packed with all kinds of stuff to make it taste so delicious. As a result you want to avoid white chocolate just as much as regular chocolate.
Ah corn kernels, something that people who like to eat about 5 quarter pounders at a BBQ think they can eat and that it writes off all the unhealthy stuff they have had. Well corn kernels are actually not as healthy for you as you would think. Their nutritional value has actually been called into question for years now, but the reason it has made my list is for one reason. pesticides. The pesticides that are used to stop bugs eating all the corn just get soaked up into it. And if that is not bad enough corn even has its own pesticide as well that it produces internally!
Canned Tomatoes & Other Canned Fruit & Vegetables
Sometimes it’s just far more convenient to grab a can of tomatoes or new potatoes than getting fresh ones. I mean canned ones do have a far greater shelf life and in the majority of cases they actually work out cheaper as well. So what’s the catch? Well some cans have a type of resin in them that is used to make the tin. This resin has been known to contain bisphenol-A / BPA. BPA which can lead to heart disease and even reproductive problems!
I used to feel great when I finally kicked the habit of having sugar in my cup of tea and stared to have a little sweetener in it instead. The problem is many studies have shown that these artificial sweeteners can in some cases be just as bad for you as regular sugar! The culprit here is Aspartame, which can make your blood sugar level raise and then you run the risk of overeating. And to make things worse those who use a great deal of artificial sweeteners have been known to develop stomach ulcers.
Food Coloring Dye
Hey we have all had a cake that looks pretty because whoever made it used a little food dye to give an extra kick. The food dye to me never really tastes of anything so what is the harm in having it to make a cake look nice? Well in tests, food dye has been proven to cause cancer in animals! It makes you wonder if in large quantities what it could do to our insides.
