4 Healthier Donuts Recipes

Donuts were one of my vices and even now I am partial to the odd donut in extreme moderation I would like to add. I would buy a four pack of donuts to last me a few days, but they would be all gone in one sitting! I cannot be the only person who did this am I? Anyway, when I wanted to starteating more healthily I started to look around for healthy alternatives to some of my favorite foods so with that being said today here we have a few healthier ways to enjoy a donut. And perhaps best of all these are all really simple recipes that take no time at all to whip up. Now these are not 100 percent fat free or 100 percent healthy recipes, but in moderation they are a great and more healthy way to give yourself a tasty snack.

Banana Chocolate Chip Donuts

The key here is that the batter we will be using for our donuts is going to be made up with spelt flour, Greek yogurt and mashed up banana. And when I say mashed I mean mashed to the max! Then get some dark chocolate chips or if you can’t find them get a dark chocolate bar and mash it up. Sprinkle the chocolate into the batter and then roll your donut shapes. I think these taste great just like this, but some people like to also roll them in cinnamon or raw cane sugar to give it a little glaze.

Maple Donuts With A Maple Glaze

I would actually say that I now prefer maple syrup to sugar and that makes these donuts just flat out awesome! For the batter you want to use whole wheat flour. Use some Stevia Applesauce in their to give the batter a little kick. And then add in your maple syrup and mix it all up and then make your donut shapes. Once you have taken them out of the oven use a little bit more maple syrup to give them a nice maple glaze.

Banana Oat Breakfast Donut

Want to enjoy a donut with your morning coffee? Well, try this much healthier donut alternative. First of all get yourself some nice ripe bananas and mash them up real good. Trust me you want no lumps here! Also use some ground oats mixed in with your mashed bananas to make the base for your donuts. As you can tell these bad boys are packed with fiber. Add in a little applesauce to give it a little extra flavor and bam you are done. You can use some vanilla or cinnamon extract to add a little flavor to it, but this is optional.

Strawberry Donuts

Strawberry Donuts

I was a sucker for those donuts in the supermarket with the pink frosting, but here we have a very good and healthy alternative to that. The base of your donut needs to be made with whole wheat flour and a little bit of buttermilk mixed in there good. Give it a good working over to mix the butter milk in there. This is all you need for the base of this donut. Then once you have baked them, take them out of the oven and use some mashed up, or if you are feeling adventurous, blended fresh strawberries and use them to glaze the top of the donuts!
