5 Ways To Outsmart The Holiday Season

Healthy eating and holiday are natural enemies. If there is a time when you are going to throw your healthy eating habits right out the window, then it will be while you are away somewhere nice on vacation or maybe during the Christmas, Easter or some other kind of holiday. These times are really tempting to say oh well it’s just a few days, I will get back on my diet once it’s over but the thing is it’s a very slippery slope and getting back to your diet can be very tough. So here are a few tips for sticking to your diet while on holiday.

Enjoy The People More Than The Food

Enjoy The People More Than The Food

Holidays such as Christmas are all about stuffing our faces with all kinds of bad stuff. But it does not have to be that way at all. You can still sit at the table and enjoy Christmas with your own healthy food, the key to doing this is by focusing on the people you are with and spending time with them rather than just eating. Holidays should be about your personal relationships with people and not the food!

Have One Cheat Day During The Holidays

Have One Cheat Day During The Holidays

This can be say Christmas day for example or maybe a day towards the end of your family vacation. But have one day where you are going to allow yourself to have something that is not on your diet. Treat yourself for being so dedicated and sticking to your diet. Too many people on diets use holidays as an excuse to fall off the wagon. One day is fine, but not every holiday has to be about food, always remember that.

Take Matters Into Your Own Hands

If you are concerned that there will be nothing healthy for you to eat, then do not use it as an excuse to fall off the wagon. Instead take charge and insist on bringing some healthy food. Not just for you, but for others as well. Who knows you may even get a few of your friends or family members to see that healthy eating or losing weight does not mean you have to eat boring tasteless food! If you are away on vacation and heading out for the day and you know your kids will want to go to Burger King for lunch, then pack your own healthy lunch so you are not tempted to get a big calorie filled cheeseburger!

Snack Before You Leave

If you are going to a friend’s house for a Christmas party or if you are on vacation and are heading out for the day, one way to stop you wanting to eat bad things is to fill up on some health snacks before you go. If you arrive somewhere and you are hungry it will be far harder to resist those cravings. But if you are already full of something nice and healthy, then you will be fine and able to say no thank you to that huge peace of deep fried chicken.

Remember Alcohol Is Full Of Calories

One way that people slip up during the holidays and while on vacation is with alcohol. Even if you stick to your diet, but drink too much wine, your diet has gone out the window! Try to keep away from alcohol and even soda if you want to keep your diet on track. One way to do it is to offer to be a designated driver.
