Deciding that you are going to cut out a vast amount of the junk you eat and start to eat more healthily is a great life choice and one that I whole heartedly commend you for. But gettingstarted to eat healthy can be really tough. While running to your pantry and throwing all the cookies, potato chips and other tasty, but unhealthy things in the garbage may seem like a good idea, I personally think that it’s best to start by making small changes to your diet and then building upon that. Today I have some simply ways that you can start your new healthy eating lifestyle!
Have Healthy Snacks
I know that cookies and chocolate taste amazing and if you eat them in moderation then that is fine, but one of the first things you should do when switching to a healthy eating life style is to cut down on the processed snacks. Instead have things like a nice apple or a banana. These not only taste really good, but they are also healthy.
Cut Out The Milk, Cream & Sugar
One easy and great way to start making your daily calorie intake just a little healthier is to drink your tea or coffee black! Now I will tell you right away that this will take a little while to get used to, but by cutting out the cream, sugar and milk you are cutting out a vast number of calories.
Pack A Lunch
By taking your lunch to work each day you are the one who is in control of what kind of food you are eating. By getting your lunch at work you are far more likely to have something that is convenient, but also unhealthy. Go on the offensive and make sure you have your lunch already made before you go to work. This does not just go for lunch either, planning all your meals is a great way to be 100 percent in control of what you are eating.
Eat More Vegetables
Well duh! I can hear you saying, but the key here is to eat the vegetables that you like. You see if you hate the taste of broccoli, then do not force yourself to eat it! This is a sure fire way to make you go running for a bag of potato chips instead. By all means try new heathy vegetables, but stick with the ones that you like, as you are far more likely to keep up your healthy eating lifestyle if you actually like the food you are eating.
Buy Whole Grains
Before I started to really think about what I was eating, I would see whole grains written on stuff all the time, but I never gave it a second thought. Well if you want to switch to a healthy diet then you need to make sure the foods you are buying are whole grain so that you are getting all the antioxidants, fiber and the good kinds of fat. Processed grans lose the majority of what makes grains good in the first place! Get into the habit of looking for that whole grain stamp.
Eat Sensible Sized Portions
We live in a day and age where many restaurants give you a big monster of a plate that is filled to the edges with food! Eating healthy also means that you should be keeping an eye on the portion size of your food. If you need to buy smaller plates! This is a great way of eating just the right amount of food to fill you up, but without over eating.
