You know why we crave junk food? Because it tastes so darn good. Well actually there are some scientific reasons like our body craving sugar and some other things, but the fact is we all get times when you are hunting around our kitchen for a hidden Snickers bar or maybe a bag of chips that fell down the back of the snack drawer. Junk food cravings can be horrible and once you get junk food on the brain it can be hard to get rid of them without eating something bad for you. Well here are a few ways to help keep those junk food cravings at bay.
Have No Junk Food In The House
While this does not make the junk food cravings away, not buying junk food and keeping it away from your house helps with this issue. At least you do not have the option of giving into those cravings and just going nuts putting all kinds of unhealthy stuff into your body. The first step to getting over junk food cravings is by not having access to it.
Have Plenty of Healthy Snacks In The House
Be it all natural nuts or some celery. Make sure that you have more than enough healthy snacks in your home. I am not saying for one minute a nice healthy piece of celery will taste like a Hersey bar. But at least it’s healthy and it will take your mind of that junk food you are craving. Also by having a good supply of healthy snacks like apples and other fruit, you are taking away the temptation to jump in the car and drive at 100 mph to our nearest store to buy junk food.
Now if you have been on any kind of diet then you will know all about a food diary. For those of you though who are just looking to eat healthy you may not know what a food diary is. Well let me tell you. A food diary sees you write down every little thing you eat so that you can keep track of your food. If you do get junk food cravings look back in your food diary at those days when you did not have junk food cravings and what healthy food you ate then. Also I would encourage you to write down times when you do give into your cravings and write how it makes you feel emotionally. You may feel disappointed, regretful and annoyed with yourself. Write it all down so you can use it as a reminder how that piece of chocolate was not worth the emotional baggage it came with!
Ask For Help
A friend of mine would stop by each and every Tuesday for a cup of coffee and a nice chat. But as well as bringing herself she would always bring some kind of cake for us to eat. This cake would usually serve as a catalyst for me to eat a whole bunch of junk that day. I eventually asked her if she could stop bringing the cake. She was more than happy to do this and had no idea that her bringing a cake was effecting my attempted new healthy eating life style. Sometimes it can help you if you ask a friend for help. On times when we have been out for the day and I am about to give in and have a nice big fat ice cream, she will say are you sure you want that?. She is not judging me, she knows I will only regret it later if I have it.
