While there can be many factors as to why a person is overlooked for a promotion. In some cases there are simply no promotions to be had! If the place that you are working at is like this, then you may want to consider looking for a new job. When looking for a new job, make it a point to look for ones that have room for advancement. And when you go for an interview do not be shy in letting them know that you want to move up the ladder.
Getting Promotion : Keep Doing A Great Job
While you may feel frustrated that others who do half the work you do have been promoted in the past, this is not a reason to give up and start half assing your work. You need to keep on doing a good job, showing up on time and in general doing the best you can. You can bet that while the last ten amazing things you have done may have gone unnoticed, that one time you screw up the higher ups in your work will notice. So as hard as it may be, just keep plugging away doing the best job you can.

Now I am not saying for one minute you should be up on the rooftop shouting about how amazing you are or brown nosing the people above you. But if you do a good job then there is nothing wrong at all with asking someone higher up for some feedback on what you have done. This is a great way without brown nosing to get their attention and hopefully make them see how important you are.

Some people want to keep their head down and just work hard and hope that they will get noticed. And you know what, if that happened, then the world would be a much fairer place. But the fact is if you are doing a good job, but you are not talking to people, saying hello, asking how people’s weekends went, then you run the risk of people not really ever thinking about you. You do not have to go into work every morning and shake people’s hands, but be friendly, say hello and show and interest in people’s lives.
Ask About A Promotion
Not all employers buy into the office loudmouths BS and that is the reason they are the ones who get promoted. Sometimes you are over looked simply because the people above you have no idea that you are interested in a promotion. They may just assume that you are perfectly happy doing what you are doing. So take the initiative, ask if you can pop in and have a chat at some point and just tell them that you love working there, but you would like to know what you can do to move up in the company.
