While I am and have been in a very good place in my life for many years, I have made more than my fair share of mistakes in my life. From very odd/dumb decisions at work, bad relationships and of course some pretty horrific fashion choices. Over the years though I have managed to kind of stop making bad decisions. Now I am not perfect (some would say far from it) but by taking these things on board I have certainly stopped making so many bad decisions like I used to do!
Get The Right Information
We as people tend to make decisions and choices in our lives based on the information we have on a certain subject. Well, the first thing you want to do is make sure the information you have been given or you have found is actually correct before you make any kind of professional or personal decision based on it. Always check that the information you have is accurate before you act on it!
Look At Past Mistakes!
Those who fail to learn from their past are doomed to repeat it. Or something like that. But look back on past bad decisions that you have made which impacted your life in a negative way. Do not dwell on them, but look back on them and figure out what made you make the decision you did. This can help you not make the same mistake in the future.
Look After Yourself
One of the ways that people often make bad decisions is by making decisions when they are overly tired or when they are really hungry. Make sure you are eating right and getting enough sleep each and every night. By making sure your mind and body are nice and healthy you are more likely to make positive decisions in your life.
Take Time To Think
It is impossible to make a good and constrictive decision when you are distracted by sending emails, taking phone calls and talking to people. Some people say that you should take at least 30 minutes of your day just to think things through and process things that have happened during the day. This can lead to you seeing things much more clearly, knowing all the details and ultimately making the right decision.
Learn To Say No
I cannot tell you how man of the bad decisions I made in my past were as a result of not being able to tell a person no. Now I am not saying I was ever taken advantage of at work or anything like that, it was just I always found it hard to say no to people when they would ask me to do something. As a result I would end up making bad decisions and agreeing to do something that I did not want to do, or something that I knew deep down I would struggle to do, or even not be able to do! Learn to say no to people when they ask you to do something you are not happy with or are uncomfortable to do.
Do Not Put Things Off Until The Last Minute
By procrastinating and leaving things to the last minute you are giving yourself far less time to do a job properly and actually think about what you are doing. This means you will rush in and just do whatever without really thinking before you act! Never put something off that you can do today until tomorrow!
